Education

Under the Education program, HADIA Foundation has setup Afghanistan’s first ever mobile library, runs a schools meals project and provide sporting equipment to help them learn and build skills.

Mobile Library

The Foundation’s mobile library was set up in 2016, it promotes the culture of book reading amongst Afghan children and youth.

Initially setup on tricycle motorbikes (now a minivan), the library travels the streets of Afghanistan’s villages and suburbs playing its ‘ice-cream van’ like tune which was composed for the library by some of Afghanistan’s best singers and composers. Kids hear the tune of
mobile library inside their homes, come out and get their free books. The library returns approximately two weeks later to collect old books and swap with new ones.

Books are also loaned to informal schools which often otherwise lack resources.

Education is one of the most powerful tools for rebuilding and stabilising Afghanistan. Decades of conflict have disrupted schooling and limited access to learning, especially in rural and underserved areas. In this context, education offers a vital pathway to peace, progress, and self-reliance. It empowers individuals, particularly children with the knowledge and skills to improve their lives, contribute to their communities, and break the cycle of poverty.

Investing in education is not just about classrooms and books—it’s about creating hope and opportunity. It lays the foundation for a more resilient and prosperous future, where communities can thrive and rebuild from within. For Afghanistan, education is not a luxury, it is a necessity for long-term stability and development.

School Meals

The HADIA Foundation, in partnership with Charity Right, operates a school meals program in a rural primary school in eastern Afghanistan, providing hot, cooked meals to girls six days a week. This initiative is designed to address both malnutrition and barriers to education for girls in underserved communities.

For many families living below the poverty line, sending children, especially girls to school can be a difficult choice. But with the promise of a daily meal, enrolment has increased, attendance has improved, and students are more engaged in the classroom. Teachers report that girls are performing better academically and participating more actively in lessons, thanks to the energy and focus that comes from proper nutrition.

The meals are prepared in a professionally equipped kitchen located inside the school, where trained staff cook food designed to meet the nutritional needs of growing children. Special attention is given to girls who are breastfeeding or lactating, ensuring they receive the nutrients essential for their health and the wellbeing of their babies. Ingredients are sourced locally, supporting nearby farmers and boosting the local economy.

Importantly, the program also provides meals to teachers and school staff, creating a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone is nourished and valued. This program reflects HADIA Foundation’s commitment to holistic development, combining education, nutrition, and community empowerment to create lasting change.
