Our People

Our people bring their passion, expertise and networks to deliver on the causes of HADIA Foundation. Most of our people are volunteers with a small effective team of staff members.

Dr. Mina Sherzai

President

Dr. Sherzai is a highly accomplished medical doctor with over 30 years of experience working across Afghanistan in both clinical practice and senior leadership roles with public health, national and international non-governmental organisations. Throughout her career, she has played a key role in the design and delivery of health services in some of the country’s most challenging and resource-constrained times. Her work reflects a deep commitment to practical, results-driven development that responds directly to the needs of vulnerable communities.

A strong and consistent advocate for women’s health, Dr. Sherzai has dedicated much of her professional life to promoting self-reliance, sustainable economic development, and equitable access to healthcare. Her leadership approach is grounded in both strategic vision and hands-on experience, enabling her to effectively bridge policy, implementation, and frontline service delivery.

In addition to her development and leadership work, Dr. Sherzai is an experienced surgeon who has provided critical surgical care to victims of war and conflict-related injuries. She currently serves as a Lead Surgeon at one of Afghanistan’s busiest and major public hospital where she continues to deliver lifesaving care while mentoring and supporting junior medical professionals.

Dr. Sherzai dedicates most of her time with HADIA in a volunteer capacity, contributing her extensive clinical expertise, strategic insight, and strong local networks to support the Foundation’s mission. Her deep healthcare background enables her to provide practical guidance to HADIA’s team in Afghanistan, helping to shape and deliver highly effective, evidence-based health programs. Through this hands-on support, Dr. Sherzai plays an important role in ensuring HADIA’s health-related interventions are responsive, impactful, and grounded in real frontline experience.
